YPSILANTI - The Toledo swimming and diving team had its streak of four consecutive victories over Mid-American Conference opponents snapped today by Eastern Michigan. The Rockets (1-1) dropped their conference opener to the Eagles (2-0) at Jones Natatorium, 163.5-136.5.
The trio of senior Carly Harter, junior Beth Rogers and sophomore Maria Bargardi carried Toledo as each swimmer recorded two individual top-place finishes.
Harter remained untouchable in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle events with winning times of 51.85 and 1:51.86, respectively. Harter has now swept those events in five straight regular-season meets. The last time she didn't win both happened with a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle against Ohio State on Jan. 7 last season.
Bargardi also performed well, winning both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke with times of 57.46 and 2:02.77, respectively. Rogers held her own in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 24:09. She also claimed the 100-yard butterfly at 55.49.
The only other first-place finish for the Rockets came in the final event. The 400-yard freestyle relay team, consisting of Harter, Rogers, senior McKenzie Bagan and freshman Brooke Edwards, swam for a time of 3:31.21.
Two Rockets recorded second-place finishes, including senior LesLee Winfield in the 100-yard breaststroke and freshman Kristen Nunnelly in the 500-yard freestyle.
Toledo's 200-yard medley relay team also finished in second place.
Next up for Toledo will be the Akron Invite on Nov. 30 to Dec. 2.
