Jimenez Named Player of the Week

Posted: Updated:

Lourdes University libero Michi Jimenez (Vega Baja, P.R./Juan Quirindongo Morell H.S.) has been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Week after helping lead the Gray Wolves to a 1-1 record during the week and a seventh place finish in the conference standings.

The freshman averaged 5.38 digs per set in a four-set loss against Davenport and a four-set victory at Concordia (Mich.).  Against Davenport she tallied 17 digs before posting 26 in the victory against the Cardinals.  She also had seven assists, two service aces, and a kill.

For the season Jimenez has averaged 3.77 digs per set, despite playing half of the season at setter, with 415 total digs.  She is the first Gray Wolf in school history to earn volleyball WHAC Player of the Week honors and just the second individual in any sport to earn conference Player of the Week accolades.

Lourdes (13-17, 5-6 WHAC) will host Concordia (Mich.) on Wednesday evening in the first round of the WHAC Tournament.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Tam-o-Shanter.
