Nearly two thirds of the people killed on Ohio roads last year were not wearing seat belts.
That's why state troopers are encouraging everyone to buckle up heading into this holiday season.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, in 2011, more than 62% of the people killed on Ohio roads were not wearing safety belts.
On the flip side, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates 363 lives were saved by belts in Ohio - more than 12,000 across the country.
And according to Ohio's 2011 Observational Seatbelt Survey: 84% of drivers were in compliance with Ohio's safety belt law. That's up nearly 20% over the survey in 2000.
The safety belt law is a secondary violation in Ohio, but if you are pulled over for something else and you're not wearing your belt, you are guaranteed an extra ticket.
