LaVoy Signs with Owens

Posted: Updated:

Aricka LaVoy, the reigning District 7 Player of the Year in Ohio, became the first student-athlete to sign with the Express volleyball team for next season.

The libero/defensive specialist from Eastwood HS was named First Team All-Northern Buckeye Conference (NBC) and First Team All-District her junior and senior years. Additionally, she was the NBC Player of the Year as a senior.

She set records for most digs (503) in a season and most aces in a season (81).

At Eastwood, LaVoy led a team coached by Jeff Beck to a district championship this past year. They finished 23-4 and made regionals for the first time since 2005. It was the most wins by an Eastwood team in 10 years.

The 5'5" honor roll student plans on studying nursing at Owens. Her sister, Alyssa, is a former member of the Express volleyball team (2009-10), and she helped lead Owens to their last national tournament appearance prior to this season.

The No. 17 Express recently captured the Region XII District E championship and are scheduled to open play in the NJCAA D-II National Tournament on Nov. 15 at 3 p.m. against Kirkwood College. All tournament matches are being held at Owens Community College in the Student Health and Activities Center.
