Lenawee County Sheriff Jack Welsh says a farmer spreading lime in the field made a gruesome discovery near an abandoned barn on Scott Hwy., north of Station Rd., Friday afternoon.
He says, "we found a body of a female, it appeared to have been here awhile."
Welsh tells 13abc the body appears to have some signs of decomposition.
According to Welsh, the death appears suspicious.
Welsh didn't talk specifics by said there were at least two indicators that tell them this may not have been an accident.
"We'll be looking for a missing persons case and hopefully that won't take very long."
There was one local case that detectives are looking into as a possible connection. In fact, a Sylvania Township detective was on scene to see if the woman matched the description of Kathy Sackrider, 59. She was last seen at her daughter's home in the township back in September. Law enforcement says it is too early to tell if its her.
