A Swanton family has a lot of questions about the shooting death of their dog. They live on Sherman White Road which is just off State Route 64. It's not clear who shot the dog. All the family can say for sure right now is that their dog Roxy was shot twice and they want to know who is responsible for what they call a senseless act.
Sharon Weaver is Roxy's owner. She just moved back to the area several months ago, "I am beside myself, she was a wonderful family dog that was killed senselessly and I don't understand why."
Sharon rescued Roxy from a shelter 8 years ago,"She was just a good dog who loved everyone. I have another dog and she doesn't know what to do without Roxy. She's been crying and whining because she doesn't know where Roxy is."
Thursday morning Sharon heard gunshots. Seconds later Roxy came running up to her bleeding profusely. They rushed her to a vet who said Roxy was likely hit by a high powered rifle at fairly close range. Kelly Farris is Sharon's sister,"Her stomach was ruptured and so was her spleen and her liver was nicked by a bullet. She made it through the surgery and then about an hour or so later she died."
Kelly and Sharon believe Roxy wandered off their property and was shot, "Roxy was not a danger to anyone she was not a vicious dog she liked other animals and she liked to play."
Kelly thinks Roxy was shot by a neighbor, "We've gone over the situation with my sister Sharon several times and it is the only conclusion we can come to."
They filed a report with the Lucas county sheriff's office, "For Roxy and my sister I would like to see the people who did this held accountable for what they did." We called the Lucas County Sheriff's office, but have not yet heard back. We also spoke with one of the family's neighbors who says she does not know anything about the dog's death
