North Toledo neighbors want a voice in future decisions

Posted: Updated:

Concerned north Toledo residents took to the streets Saturday, handing out flyers about a community meeting set for Monday.

They want to talk about Toledo City Council's decision to restore Fire Station #3 and build another fire station nearby.

Earlier this week, Toledo City Council approved lelgistation funding a study on the matter. Fire Station #3, located at Bush & Erie, closed after structural cracks were found in the floor.

Neighbors were happy about the compromise that preserves the station, but still concerned that park land was exchanged to build the new station without community input. They want to make sure any future decisions go through their newly-formed neighborhood coalition.

Activist Lee Campbell says, "@e've been abandoned for a long time, and I think it's important that not only the council members here us but everybody hear us. This is our neighborhood this is my, I love this neighborhood it's not crack filled and drug filled, it's loving people, supporting each other over here and sometimes we need help."

The group's first meeting will be held Monday at the Friendly Center at 1324 N. Superior Street.
