International enrollment surges at U.S. universities

Posted: Updated:

Area colleges looking to beef up enrollment are recruiting overseas.

The number of international students in the U.S. is up across the country, with a majority choosing universities in the Midwest.

International enrollment is up by 6% the U.S. and majority of students are from China.

A recent study shows Chinese students are boosting international numbers and choosing schools here in the Midwest, including Indiana University and the University of Michigan.

Both University of Toledo and BGSU have strong international programs as well.

Last year there were more than 765,000 international students studying on U.S. campuses.

In the end, it means big money for colleges. Out of country students typically pay full tuition and board without financial aid, something that might help schools who are seeing enrollment numbers level off.
