Ohio healthcare premiums expected to soar

Posted: Updated:

If you work in Ohio expect your healthcare premiums to surge.

A new survey show the average worker could see healthcare costs jump by hundreds of dollars.

A survey published in the Columbus Dispatch shows on average, employees across Ohio could more than pay more than $2,000 towards their health care premiums.

That's the first time we've seen costs that high across the state. The survey looked at 113 employers in central Ohio and found on average, healthcare costs are expected to jump more than 8%.

Co-pays are also increasing and some companies are penalizing employees for opting out of wellness programs.

Others stopping hiring smokers, a trend we've seen locally at area hospitals. Huntington just announced as of January they'll only hire non-smokers.

Now silver lining, while we might be paying an average of $2,100 towards healthcare, that's still slightly lower than the national average.
