Law enforcement blitz in Wood County

Posted: Updated:
WOOD COUNTY, Ohio -

The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced the results of a two-day enforcement blitz Tuesday.

Multiple law enforcement agencies in Wood County joined forces to combat criminal activity. Operation shield, as it's called, focused primarily on the Bowling Green area, arresting accused criminals and getting impaired drivers off the streets.

It was a two day blitz that called for team work between state troopers, the Wood County Sheriff's office, the FBI, and BG police.

"We pulled our resources together and brought in additional investigators and detectives," says Capt. Gary Allen, Ohio State Highway Patrol

Operation Shield officers made a total of 760 traffic stops. Authorities seized 75-hundred dollars in cash, plus a large amount of drugs, including heroin, marijuana, and nearly 1,500 oxicodone pills.

"What we're finding is a lot of people are coming to the community committing thefts, trafficking drugs and engaging in other activities that are honestly not acceptable," says Chief Brad Connor, Bowling Green Police Department

Officials say northwest Ohio is a hot spot for drug trafficking because of the many major highways that intersect. Officials say more traffic brings more trouble.

"Projecting the rest of the year we're expecting a 27%-30% percent drug arrest, probably 25% OVI arrest and maybe 40c% burglary arrest," says Connor

Officials say due to the great success- officials in wood county plan to run another enforcement blitz soon.
