Coroner says 5 died of CO poisoning

Posted: Updated:

According to this police report Mandy Hayes dropped her three kids off at school Monday around 8:20 am. Around 10 am the school called the mom and told her that none of the kids reported to school.

The report states that the 35 year old mother suspected her mother Sandy Ford may have taken the children without permission. Sylvania Township police checked the security cameras at Whiteford school and saw the grandmother waiting in the lobby of the school and leaving with the children.

Officers issued an alert to all the police departments to be on the lookout for the kids.
Sylvania Township's police chief says an officer went to the home and tried to contact the grandmother, but there was no answer.

Late that afternoon the children's mother contacted Sylvania Township police and reported that her father came home and found some disturbing notes. Police responded and used a sledgehammer to open the barricaded garage door.

Police found the bodies of 10 year old Paige Hayes, 6 year old Logan Hayes, and 5 year old Madalyn Hayes along wit their grandmother 54 year old Sandy Ford and their uncle 32 year old Andy Ford inside a Honda civic dead. Police found hoses leading into car from the exhaust of a dodge truck left running.

Police say the grandmother and uncle killed the kids and themselves because of a custody battle.
