HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio judge has
convicted a father and stepmother of child endangering involving a
12-year-old girl who claimed she was kept locked in the basement as
discipline.
The Southwest Ohio couple
denied keeping her in the basement for long periods, and said the door
was locked to keep toddlers in the home from falling down stairs.
Butler County Judge Matthew
Crehan disagreed and said Friday the girl wasn't fed
properly and was treated differently from other children in the home. He
ruled after a 3-day nonjury trial in Butler County Juvenile Court. The
girl weighed 74 pounds when found by investigators acting on a tip.
Forty-year-old Shawn Blackston and 37-year-old Joanna Blackston of Middletown each face up to six months in jail.
