Santa arrives at holiday parade

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

Santa paid an early visit to Toledo at Saturday's Toledo Holiday Parade.

People lined the sidewalks downtown for the 25th annual Holiday Parade.

Christina Banks said she wouldn't miss the event. "I love it, I worked it for 2 years straight. Every now and then I'll come down and work it; carry the balloons or do the pooper scooper. I love coming down here to the parade!"

Many local families consider it the kick-off to their holiday traditions. Those who've worked the parade over the year estimate that around 15,000 people attend. Many line up hours ahead of time to secure a spot along North Summit Street.

Parade-goer Amber Achinger doesn't mind the wait. "We have fun. We talk and joke with each other while we're sitting here waiting."

Once the parade begins, it doesn't stop for two hours. This year's parade featured at least 80 clowns and many balloons and floats.

This year hometown Olympic silver medalist Erick Kynard was the grand marshal along with characters from Toy Story.

The real star of the show is Santa Claus and after the parade he took a seat at the Imagination Station to meet eager children.

The parade was co-sponsored by 13abc and the Toledo Blade.
