County workers challenge other govt. employees to give back

TOLEDO, Ohio -

Local child support workers also offered some support to the homeless on Sunday. Thirty-five of them turned out to serve a hot meal to those in need at the Cherry Street Mission.

Anita Prielipp, president of AFSCME Local 544 says she sent out an email asking for her coworkers to pitch in and donate a dollar and some time to adopt a meal at the mission. They responded with nearly $500 and volunteered their time.

"We all have good jobs. We all work for the county. We complain about them. But you know what? We have a good job and so I challenge county, state and city employees to do the same."

The Cherry Street Mission serves three meals a day, seven days a week. Tacos, rice and beans were on the menu for Sunday's dinner.

The group is also delivering meals to the Sparrow's Nest, a shelter for homeless women.

The investigation is still ongoing, however police say they have determined the students were never going to carry out the threat. The Lenawee County prosecutor's office tells us at least one of the suspects is 16 years old.
