Board certifies over 8000 ballots in Lucas Co.

TOLEDO, Ohio -

The numbers are in and we now know how many more ballots need to be counted to decide some very close Lucas County races.  Provisional ballots certified Tuesday show there is still room for some groups to turn their defeats into victories.

It was a very tight race at the Imagination Station.  The levy was defeated by only 1075 votes.  With more to be counted, there is still optimism.

The Board of Elections says there were 8439 ballots verified.  10,240 provisional ballots were requested and 1801 were rejected.

"I think we're all very optimistic but very anxious to get that count and hear what voters had to say," said Imagination Station Executive Director Lori Hauser.  Hauser says 40% percent of Imagination Station's funds come from levy money.

"It's the longest election night of my life, I think, in going forward.  But still being hopeful. Still hearing about how many voters voted for the science center and the support we're hearing out," said Hauser.

County money already approved runs through 2013, so there is still the option of going back to voters if this election turns into a loss.

"We would be looking at going at a renewal of it probably in the fall of 2013," said Hauser.

The actual results of the provisional ballots will be released Monday.
