Blustery winds blast cold air on Black Friday

Posted: Updated:
MONROE, Michigan -

Blustery winds from the west are driving temperatures downward, on the heels of the early Black Friday morning cold front.  Although we were in the middle 50s very early this morning, we'll fall through the lower 40s and into the 30s through the daytime hours. The winds from the west will be sustained at 15-25 mph, with gusts over 35 mph, and this will cause large waves to grow on Lake Erie. A Gale Warning has been issued for the Lake Erie shoreline in Monroe County, Michigan.  Small Craft Advisories are in effect for the Ohio lakeshore.

A few snow flurries and snow showers will arrive this afternoon and evening, but no significant accumulations are expected.

In the extended forecast, however, there is potential for an accumulating snow on Tuesday.  Stay tuned!

The 13abc I-Team taking you to the experts tracking what's going into the Maumee River that's causing that Lake Erie algal bloom. Too much of the toxic algae triggered the "do not drink" order at the start of the August. The Maumee River is one of the lake's greatest water sheds, running more than 130 miles from Indiana through Ohio to the lake. Changes to it could make all the difference. One local university is at the forefront of tracking what's going into the river.
