Sanctuary asks animal lovers to hold off visiting puppies

Posted: Updated:
PORT CLINTON, Ohio -

The Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary wants the public to know they are thankful for the overwhelming interest in the 34 dogs they rescued from an apparent puppy mill. But they would also like people to hold off on visiting the animals.

In a statement, the group said that due to the medical and social needs of the dogs and their small staff, they are asking that no one visit until they make an announcement that the dogs are available for visits and adoption.

The group will not be open to the public for the next week to ten days while the dogs get used to their new environment.

They say the staff is extremely busy taking the animals to the vet for vaccinations and spaying/neutering and just looking after the dogs.

If you are interested in adopting a dog, the group asks that you go to their website to print out an application and send it to them at 2337 S. Linda Drive, Marblehead, OH 43440.  They will follow up when the dogs are ready for adoption sometime after December 1st.

They would also appreciate cash donations to help out with the care of the animals. They are also requesting blankets, towels, laundry soap, disinfectant, puppy good, brown small bites dog food and other supplies. Those can be dropped off in the yellow donation box in front of the facility.
