Police: baby in viral video safe, abusive mom jailed

A video of a young woman repeatedly hitting a 10-month-old baby has gone viral on the Internet. And people all over the world have expressed concerned for the baby. Locally, many of you have called the 13abc newsroom and posted on our Facebook wall, worried that the abuse happened here in Northwest Ohio.

It turns out the video was taken in May of 2011 in Malaysia.  Malaysian officials say a friend of the teenaged mother in the video recorded the abuse and turned it in to the police. The woman was convicted of child abuse and sentenced to 18 months in prison. The baby was placed in a foster home and is doing well.
