Man confesses choking Toledo woman to death

Posted: Updated:

A man has been indicted by a Lucas County grand jury for murder after confessing to killing a Toledo woman in 2008.

Lynette Reid's badly burned body was found inside an abandoned house on Nesslewood in Toledo in September of 2008. The case was initially investigated as a suspicious death, but it was ruled at the time that Reid died of an accidental overdose.

Last Friday, Ronald Martin went to the Safety Building and confessed to killing Reid. Detectives reopened the case as a homicide investigation.

Police say Martin's confession included facts that only the killer would have known and was consistent with evidence.

The Lucas County coroner is expected to change Reid's official cause of death to "combined drug toxicity and asphyxia by application of choke hold."
