Fans give Whitmer sendoff to championship game

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

Hundreds of Whitmer Panther fans turned out to see the team off to play for the Division 1 title.

They lined the streets outside Whitmer High school, many were friends or family of the football players, but some were community members who appreciate the positive attention the team's success brings to the area.

The Panthers are undefeated this season and they are playing for the Division 1 State Championship for the first time. They'll face Cincinnati Moeller at Fawcett Stadium in Canton.

Proud Panther father Brian Reineke hopes the game brings new opportunities to the players.

"Hopefully, we'll get a lot more big schools looking at our boys and looking here to get that recruitment going. Get those boys off to colleges that they want to go to."

Win or lose, it's been a history-making growing season and the fans are proud.
