Home is early Christmas present for family

Posted: Updated:
ROSSFORD, Ohio -

Christmas came early for the Fisher family of Rossford. They have a brand new home from Habitat for Humanity. A house built from the ground up in just six months.

New homeowner Christine Fisher says the quick build makes it seem like just yesterday she found out her family was chosen to for the next Habitat build.

The project was on a tight deadline to take advantage of funding from a neighborhood stabilization program grant. Locally-owned Ridge Stone builders stepped up to help get the job done. The family put in at least 250 hours of sweat-equity, working to complete their new home.

Jennifer Kephart, Executive Director of Wood County Habitat for Humanity said, "The Fisher family is amazing. They're just amazing. She had an army here in a moment."

Christine Fisher said she wanted her children to be able to come home to a place that would always be there.

Neighbors and over 50 organizations donated their time and materials to the project. This home is the very first Energy Star 3.0 home in Northwest Ohio. That should mean lower utility bills for the family in their high efficiency home.

Now, the money from Christine's mortgage payments will help other families as part of Habitat for Humanity.
