DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Science Center will reopen later this month under a new name.
Officials announced Tuesday the Michigan Science Center will be open to the public on Dec. 26
Financial difficulties forced the science center to close more than a year ago.
According to The Detroit News, the 150,000-square-foot museum located in Detroit's midtown cultural center had been $6.2 million in debt and facing liquidation earlier this year.
Officials say the science center will start its full schedule on Jan. 30, and they anticipate 260,000 people will visit in the first year of operation.
The Detroit Free Press reports visitors will be able to see a special traveling exhibition, "Bodies Human: Anatomy in Motion," in addition to familiar permanent displays and the IMAX Theater.
