Kidnapped man rescued from trunk during traffic stop

Posted: Updated:

Kentucky authorities have released dash cam video showing a bizarre find during a routine traffic stop.

Police stopped a car for expired plates. What they didn't know was that the car's rightful owner was tied up in the trunk, fearing for his life!

Police say three people kidnapped the 22-year-old from his job at a convenience store in August. They beat him up and stuffed him inside his own car trunk after their car broke down.

During the traffic stop, the man happened to see flashing lights outside a crack in a broken tail light, and that's when he made his move.

"I heard a voice, and I could tell from his inflection he was an officer," says victim Shawn Bloemer. "He asked about insurance, and that's when I started kicking and punching on the hood yelling."

Police called for back-up units, and pulled the suspects out of the car with guns drawn before cautiously opening the truck, not sure what to expect.

The man is now safe and has expressed his thankfulness to the officers.

As for the suspects, they're behind bars, charged with kidnapping and theft.
