More than 100 new jobs at Toledo company

Posted: Updated:

More than 100 new jobs are coming on line here in Toledo. The Universal Marketing Group is filling both full and part time positions. UMG has been in business for about a decade and they've grown from just a handful of workers to a couple hundred.

The call center is one of the most successful in the country, handling orders for up to 30 different products at any time. Tammy White is the training manager and she says UMG's call center here in Toledo handles the orders for some of the biggest infomercial campaigns in the country, "Beach Body is our biggest campaign. They handle P90X, Insanity, Body Beast, 10 minute trainer. We also handle the new wave oven, precision induction cook top and my pillow."

The call center started with about 20 employees just ten years ago. Scheduling Manager Greg Borer says they are now adding about 150 full and part time sales reps to the workforce, "We're looking to double our staffing, so that means adding about 150 people. We've been told by our clients they want to send us as many calls as possible and now its up to us to find the people to answer those phone calls."

UMG is a commission based company. White says base pay starts at $8 an hour, "You are always guaranteed an hourly rate, but what you can make depends on your performance. We have some sales reps who make up to $25 an hour, but the average would be $11-$15 an hour."

White says there are plenty of choices when it comes to your work schedule, "We are here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year so your scheduling is flexible. You can work overnights, days, evenings, early morning, weekends. You get to pick your own schedule in a sense."

UMG offers full time employees benefits, paid vacations, bonus incentives and a 401k plan.
