Recount begins for Imagination Station levy

Posted: Updated:
LUDINGTON, Mich. -

After counting all the provisional ballots, The Imagination Station levy passed, but the votes will still be counted one more time.

Volunteers are back at it again helping the Lucas County board of elections tally up the votes that would confirm the levy for the Imagination Station passed. the Lucas County board of elections says the more than 8,000 provisional ballots cast reversed the election night result loss. The current count has the levy passing by 300 votes, but still that's not enough to secure the levy's victory.

"It needed to be more than one half of 1 percent so we fell within that margin. Recounts rarely change the result of a contest but this is a good process to make sure our systems are working properly and it instill confidence in the public that are election results are confident and are machines are doing exactly what we tested them to do," Says Meghan Gallagher, Dir. Lucas County Board of Elections

However the process may take while. The votes are being counted once by hand. And again by machines.

"We're not exactly sure how long it will take because we don't have a specific deadline we just want to make sure that we finish it accurately and efficiently," says Daniel DeAngelis, Deputy Dir. Lucas County Board of Elections

If the recount uphold the victory the levy will cost the owner of a $100,000 home just more than $5 a year. It will generate more than a million dollars for the science center over the next five years.  Leaders with the imagination station say it's money that will help keep certain programs running.

The Imagination Station's levy is the only issue that qualified for a recount.
