Ottawa Hills taps auction site to sell seized property

Posted: Updated:

The Ottawa Hills Police Department has teamed up with one of the nation's biggest online police auction sites.

The department is now working with propertyroom.com to get rid of its seized, found and surplus property.

The auction site works with 2,800 departments across the country, including Toledo. The site will list the items, and the village will keep a portion of the sales.

"It's going to alleviate a lot of issues with trying to find ways to get the property sold," says Ottawa Hills Property Room Manager Marc Tupper. "Obviously they're very much streamlined. They make it much easier for departments to track items. We have to know where all our products are at until they're officially sold."

The police department never sells confiscated guns, which are melted down instead.
