Hundreds spread 'Hope for the Holiday's at Friday's drive-thru

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of hands worked to make the holidays a little brighter on Friday.  From sun up to sun down, they drove through the 13abc drive to bring all kinds of toys for Northwest Ohio's less fortunate families.  13abc teamed up with the Salvation Army, Gallon, Takacs, Bossioneault and Schaffer, Vito's Pizza and Subs, Hylant Group and Walmart..to bring hope for the holidays.

"I kept seeing your ad on the TV and I thought well, it's time to clean out the garage," says Keiran Menacher.  She works for a toy manufacturer and brought some extra trinkets to donate.  She says helping needy kids this time of the year is a gift in itself.

"It makes you feel that you're participating in helping others that don't have the good fortune that I have in my life," says Menacher.

Several guests stopped by the station, but one man took the cake.  Santa Claus says he was impressed at the outpouring of support for local families.

"It's absolutely amazing, the generosity of the people of Toledo," says Jolly Ol' Saint Nick.

By Friday night, community members had donated more than 6,000 gifts.  A generous gesture for kids and parents needing a little extra help this holiday season.

"We were talking about how fortunate we've been and we kinda wanted to pass that on," says Tim Schwamberger. "So, this is a good cause, and we're taking advantage of it."

The toy drive continues through Friday, December 21.  You can find a complete list of drop off locations on our website.
