Officers make holiday wishes come true for needy kids

WOOD COUNTY, Ohio -
Dozens of Wood County officers teamed up to fill the holiday wish lists of a 115 kids. Police and the young shoppers hit the store for some shopping on Saturday.
The officers raise money through their Cops and Kids program to help families in need celebrate the holidays. Children are referred by area school districts or nominated by an officer. Each child gets about $100 to spend.
Sgt. Doug Hubaker says these kids aren't just thinking about themselves, "I had one little girl come in and ask me if it would be okay if she bought her dad a pair of shoes this year, so it was pretty touching."
'Shop with a Cop' gives kids the opportunity to get what they need for Christmas and also develop relationships with the officers.
Shopper Lylah Green knew just what she wanted. "All kinds of Barbies! I want a whole Barbie set that has a house and a castle!"
The program benefits kids of all ages, from infants to teens.
Mandie Lemaster said she missed nearly a month of work and wasn't sure how she was going to pay for Christmas. "This is absolutely amazing and I'm so grateful for all of it."
