Docs still hope vitamin D can protect memory

Posted: Updated:

Doctors are not giving up on using vitamin D to fight dementia, despite some disappointing results of a recent study.

Past research suggested that vitamin D might protect against memory loss, but when researchers combined it with calcium, the vitamin had no effect.

One thousand women were given doses of both vitamin D and calcium. While that combination had conflicting results, doctors are still encouraged that vitamin D can help treat dementia.
