Wings Beat the Walleye 4-3

Posted: Updated:

KALAMAZOO - Toledo nearly erased a three goal deficit but fell at Kalamazoo 4-3 tonight. Toledo has a record of 13-10-0-1 and is 7-5-0-1 on the road this season.

It would be the Wings who would get the game's first goal as Steven Anthony would beat Jordan Pearce with a rebound goal. The Walleye would tie the game when Willie Coetzee lifted a wrist shot past Joel Martin at 10:40 of the period. Ben Youds and Joey Ryan assisted on the 10th goal of the season for Coetzee.

"We needed to have a short memory, forgot about what happened last night and play our game," said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. "You are playing with fire putting this team on the power play and we were burnt by that tonight."

The Wings would score consecutive power play goals at 2:30 and 3:19 of the second to open up a 3-1 lead. Kalamazoo would make it 4-1 at 7:09 of the second when Nick Sirota scored his second goal of the game. The Walleye would close the gap with a power play at 16:21 from defenseman Wes O'Neill. Andrej Nestrasil fired a perfect pass to the front of the net that O'Neill tipped in for his 7th goal of the season.

Toledo would make it just a one goal game when Luke Glendening tipped Phil Oreskovic's shot past Joel Martin at 12:36 of the third period. Wes O'Neil also collected an assist on Glendening's team leading 14th goal of the year for a two point night. Toledo outshot the Wings 13-2 in the third period.

Walleye Notes:  Goaltender Jordan Pearce made 18 saves and is 6-3-0-0 on the season. Toledo is 8-8-0-0 against teams from the North Division this year.  Defenseman Wes O'Neill has set a new career high in goals with seven this season; five of those have come on the power play.
