Findlay police officers surprise brave boy fighting cancer

FINDLAY, Ohio -

Findlay police officers give a brave little boy fighting cancer quite a Christmas surprise.

They made his dream of someday becoming a police officer come true.

Paul Young took the oath Thursday morning.

Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik swore the four-year-old into the Findlay Police Department as a junior officer declaring it Paul Young Day in the Flag City.

Then police officers gave him his own police cruiser.

"I like it!" Paul said as he hopped inside.

Officers were able to track down a Power Wheels Dodge Charger police cruiser and get it decalled just like the big ones. They also had it tricked out with extra strobes and LED lights. And that's not all.

Officers then shut down South Corey Road so Paul could drive his cruiser down the street.

Paul's mom says he was diagnosed in October of 2011 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

She says it's beautiful to see him smile.

"He loves it!" says Mary Finkes, Paul's mom. "It's really great because with him being sick we haven't got to do very much. It's amazing for him to be able to be a kid with the cancer he's got. It has been rough since he's been diagnosed and this is just great."

"Everybody just pulled together and said you know here's a sick little boy and he wants to be a police officer," says Officer Brian Dill. "We're a brotherhood, we stand behind each other every day so we figured why not lift this up and make this a really good day for him so he can forget about all of his issues that's going on and just come out and have a good time."

"Police officer Paul loves the police car!" says Paul.
