OH teen organ donor to be honored in Rose Parade

Posted: Updated:

LUCAS, Ohio (AP) - A 16-year-old Ohio car crash victim whose donated organs saved three lives will be honored with a floral portrait in the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year's Day.

The Mansfield News Journal reports that Shelby Cooper of Lucas in northern Ohio died in a crash on New Year's Day in 2004.

A portrait of her created with flowers and other organic material will be displayed on the Donate Life Float in the upcoming parade in Pasadena, Calif.

The "floragraph" was started in Pasadena and shipped to Ohio so Cooper's parents could put the finishing touches on it.

The float is intended to inspire people to become organ, eye and tissue donors.

The 72 floral portraits on this year's float honor donors from around the country.
