The gunman in the Connecticut shooting rampage shot his mother four times in the head before going to the school and gunning down 26, authorities said Sunday as details emerged suggesting that Adam Lanza had planned an even more gruesome massacre but was stopped short.

With heavy hearts, a large group of people from our area came together Saturday night at the Toledo Children's Memorial to honor the lives of those lost in the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre.

Those attending say they are still in shock and also worried because a tragedy like that could happen anywhere.

Some of the people in attendance have experienced the loss of their own child and just wanted to show support. The Compassionate Friends of Northwest Ohio organized the public vigil and say unity is a way to try to heal.
