Otsego HS student arrested for threatening violence

An Otsego High School student has been arrested after allegedly saying someone was going to attack the school this Friday.  The threat comes on the heels of the Connecticut shooting and has students and parents on high alert. 

The alleged threat was made Friday afternoon, just hours after the news was starting to come out of Connecticut. Emotions were raw, and everyone wanted to get to the bottom of the threat quickly. 

School officials held assemblies with parents and law enforcement over the weekend, trying to get answers. 

Another assembly was held Monday morning, and some students gave information to school officials. 

Bowing Green police were called to apprehend the suspected student. Investigators searched his home and did not find any weapons, ammunition or access to weapons for that student. 

He was charged with inducing panic and disorderly conduct. 

"The tragic events in Connecticut escalated the situation, and we take every threat serious," says Otsego Superintendent Adam Koch. "Every concern of students, parents, staff we take serious,  but that only escalated the situation and brought it up to the forefront."    

"I think last Friday was part of what spurred the conversation for him to say what he said," says Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn. "Everybody's on edge, and I think sometimes young people say things without realizing what they're saying and the effect that has on other people that hear that." 

Because the suspected student is a juvenile, his name was not released.
