Police: Fake auditor steals from Ohio Waffle House

MASON, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a woman posing as an auditor for Waffle House stole money from 1 of the chain's restaurants in southwest Ohio.

The Warren County sheriff's department says the woman entered a Waffle House in Deerfield Township near Mason shortly after 2:30 a.m. Monday. Sgt. B.D. Lacy said Tuesday that the woman told employees she was a corporate auditor and was there to inspect the premises.

Lacy says the woman stayed for about 45 minutes quizzing employees about procedures and asked an employee to print out the night's sales receipts and open the cash register. Lacy says the woman then took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and fled while the employee was distracted.

A message seeking comment was left for the restaurant's manager Tuesday.
