Snow drought about to end

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

It has been 289 days, and tomorrow we will reach 290 days since the last snowflakes fell and stuck to the ground across the Toledo metro area. The snow drought has shattered the old record of 283 days set back in 2010. We will also come within 4 days of the latest measurable snowfall of the season, but that record should hold but barely. It has been a slow start to the winter season, but we will get a good taste of winter weather over the next 48 hours. Rain, snow, wind, low visibilities and wind chill will all impact the area. Here is the latest timeline.

Thursday morning: Light rain possible with winds gusts up to 35 mph at times.

Thursday afternoon/evening: Highs reaching the 50 degree mark with heavy rainfall possible. A few thunderstorms are also possible with winds gusting up to 45 mph.

Thursday overnight/early Friday morning: Light rain changing to light snow with little to no accumulation through 4am. Wind gusts will calm down for several hours as the low pressure moves overhead.

Friday morning: Bands of snowfall will move in with wind gusts around 50 mph. Visibilities will fall to below 1 mile at times. Temperatures will drop quickly into the upper 20s to low 30s.

Friday afternoon: Snowfall will taper to flurries with wind gusts still around 45 to 50 mph at times. Wind chill values will drop into the teens.

The precipitation totals could near 1" with the rain and snow combined. Snow totals are expected to be around 1-3" across the entire area. The lighter snow amounts are expected in Monroe, Lenawee, Lucas, and northern Wood Counties.
