GAYLORD, Mich. (AP) - A snowstorm hitting the Midwest has dumped more than 10 inches of snow in northern Michigan and knocked out power to at least 60,000 state electricity customers.
The National Weather Service says hazardous conditions are reported Friday morning from snow that started falling a day earlier. Dozens of northern Michigan schools closed Friday because of weather, giving students an early start to the holiday break.
Southern Michigan received rain and snow. A dusting of wet snow was on the ground Friday morning in the Detroit area.
CMS Energy Corp.'s Consumers Energy unit says at 60,000 customers lost power, and 27,150 remained powerless Friday morning.
The weather service says snowfall totals could reach 13 inches in upper Michigan and 14 inches in northern lower Michigan before the storm exits Michigan Friday.
