12/22 Saturday snow update

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

Here is the latest with our Wednesday storm. This is just one of many computer models for the storm that will approach the area on Wednesday and it is a perfect example of why Meteorologists are so concerned about the exact track of a winter storm. A shift of 50-100 miles one direction could put the area in a cold rain, while a shift the other direction may lead to lighter or heavier snowfall.

In this particular computer model, areas south and east of I-70 and I-71 are projected to have lots of cold rain, and eastern Indiana could have the heaviest snowfall with 6"+. In another model run today, the heavy snow axis is across northwest Ohio, another model has the heavy snow axis over Columbus keeping NW Ohio and SE Michigan with light snow. This storm is now located right off the Pacific Northwest coastline. Once this storm makes landfall we will get a lot more data on the storm which will lead to better forecasts. This should come more in line during the next 24 to 48 hours.

Regardless, if you are making plans to travel anywhere in Indiana, Ohio, or Michigan on the day after Christmas, make sure to check in with future forecasts. The storm track and forecast will most likely change to some extent. We will have another in depth update right here Sunday evening.
