"Layaway angels" spread Christmas cheer

Posted: Updated:

"Layaway angels" have been performing good deeds at a Toledo Kmart for many years; paying off the layaway purchases of strangers.

This year, they struck again. For the past few days, people from all walks of life have come into the store and said they wanted to help out strangers during the holidays.

Operations manager Laura Hays says this is nothing new, "We had a family that came in a couple of years and instead of doing Christmas presents for each other, they each take and pay off one layaway."

Employees say they enjoy calling customers to tell them the good news.

One of the lucky recipients of the "angels'" generosity commented on 13abc's Facebook page, "I had the amazing chance to have these angels share their thoughtfulness with me this season. You never expect things like this to happen to you, and when it does, it is truly an overwhelming experience."
