Toledo residents celebrate start of Kwanzaa

Posted: Updated:

Drums signaled  the start of Kwanzaa on Wednesday, a week-long celebration of African American heritage and culture.

Dozens of people took part in the festivities Wednesday night put on at the Wayman Palmer YMCA by the Toledo Kwanzaa House.

Kwanzaa is based on seven principles and each day is dedicated to one of those principles.  Wednesday's principal is Umoja, which means unity.

The week-long celebration runs through New Year's Day.
