Montpelier airman gets Christmas call from President

Posted: Updated:

A Montpelier woman got a surprise phone call on Christmas Day from President Obama.

Senior Airman Keshia Shutts is stationed at the Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan. She was one of 10 service members to receive a Christmas call from the Commander and Chief.

Shutts says the President thanked her for her service and asked about her daughter and fiance.

"He asked me if I set a wedding date yet because I'm engaged. I said, you are welcome to attend my wedding, Sir." Shutts said. "He says, I'd love to attend, but you'd have to have a lot of security there."

Shutts was nominated for the special Presidential chat. She's scheduled to return home next week.
