A 21-year-old Grand Rapids. MI man has been jailed on a $750,000 bond, accused of being drunk when he ran a traffic signal in his SUV, struck a car, killed an 8-year-old girl and fled the scene.

The victim is identified as Dayma Roblero of Detroit. Mlive.com and WOOD-TV says two other children were hospitalized after Monday's crash in Grand Rapids.

Byron Juarez was arraigned Wednesday in Grand Rapids District Court on charges of drunken driving causing death and failure to stop at a fatal accident. The Kent County jail says there's no information on whether he has a lawyer.

Police say Juarez and 25-year-old passenger Marco Coronado-Augustin got out and ran, but witnesses helped police catch them.

Coronado-Augustin is charged with resisting an officer and was freed on bond.

If a tornado threatens, get into the basement. If you don't have a basement, a small, interior room in the lowest floor of your home is relatively safe. Avoid rooms with windows. Mobile homes are not safe in a tornado.
