Snow means business for local shops

Posted: Updated:

Phones have been ringing off the hook at local ski shops as people are anxious to get out and enjoy old man winter.

"The snow is greatly welcomed," Jill Wersell, owner of Wersell's Bike and Ski Shop said.  "We haven't had it for so long and we're having people come in, rent and purchase skis, both cross country and down hill."

Wednesdays coating of snow has significantly helped business at Wersell's.  In fact, some of their winter sports merchandise is fling off the shelf.

"Last year was a long winter," Wersell said. "We still had customers but the unfortunate part was people would make reservations for rentals but the cancel because we didn't have any snow."

Cross country skiing equipment is the hot ticket item.  Especially because its a sport that can be enjoyed right here in the area.

Mountain Man Sports has also seen more customers since the flakes fell.

"Now, all of a sudden snows coming, things have really picked up," Jim Wenberg, Owner of Mountain Man Sports, said.

Wenberg also says people are also looking for skis, but they're seeing a big jump in clothing sales.

"Its a little bit of everything, especially winter clothing since its cold," Wenberg said.  "People are looking for something that is quality that is going to really keep them dry and warm."

Wednesday was the first measurable snow fall in Toledo in nearly 300 days.
