Man saves dog from frozen Lake Erie

Posted: Updated:

A Michigan pup is lucky to be alive, thanks to the rescue efforts of its owner's cousin.

Lance Eicher of Brownstown Township, Michigan says he was thinking of The Golden Rule when he jumped into a frozen lake to save his cousin's dog, "Bart."

The 11-year-old Walker Hound had wandered off and fallen through the ice.

Eicher rushed out to save him and ended up spending over an hour in the frigid water trying to keep the dog warm and calm until more help arrived.

"I kind of looked and went, 'You know what? What if it was my dog? What if it was my situation? I would hope somebody would try to do something,'" Eicher says.

He says he barely thought, he just acted. Both he and Bart are warming up and doing just fine.
