MI Humane Society offers grieving pet owner group

Posted: Updated:

BINGHAM FARMS, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Humane Society has created a group for those grieving the loss of a pet.

The Paw Prints Grief Support Group's first meeting is noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the society's administrative office in Bingham Farms.

Volunteer Programs Manager Jamahl Scott says in a release "losing a pet can be incredibly difficult" but the group allows grieving pet owners to talk about their loss with others "going through the same thing."

Participants can talk openly about their experience and are encouraged to share photographs, scrapbooks and other pet mementos.

Advance signup is required and can be done by visiting www.michiganhumane.org/pawprints or by calling 248-283-1000, ext. 179.

The free service will be held on the first Saturday of every month.
