BOWLING GREEN - Bowling Green State University women's soccer standout Leah Johnson has been named to the 2012 Academic All-Ohio Team by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OCSA).
Johnson, a fifth-year senior, is a native of Wheaton, Ill. (Wheaton Warrenville South H.S.). The Academic All-Ohio honor is just the latest award for Johnson, who was recently named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team. Additionally, she received the 1A Faculty Athletics Representatives Academic Excellence Award.
Johnson played in all 19 of BGSU's matches in 2012, starting 17. She started the first 11 matches of the year, came off the bench for two contests, then returned to the starting lineup for the final six games of the season. Johnson played a total of 1,017 minutes on the season.
Johnson, who started all 40 matches over her first two seasons at BGSU (2008 and '09), missed the entire 2010 season after suffering an injury during the preseason. She returned to the field in 2011, playing in the last seven matches of the season before seeing action in all of the Falcons' 2012 contests.
Johnson finished her career with totals of 66 games played and 57 starts. She saw time at forward, midfield and defender spots during her BGSU career, and recorded eight career points on two goals and four assists.
In the classroom, Johnson is an accounting major, and had a stellar cumulative grade-point average of 3.97 at the time of nomination (prior to the end of the fall semester).
