Toledo resident plans second group trip to inauguration

Posted: Updated:

Michael Huggins still remembers seeing President Obama's first swearing-in ceremony back in 2009.  He organized a trip for more than 50 people to witness what he calls, a great moment in history.

"My granddaughter was four years old back in the first inauguration," says Huggins. "She's seven now, and I plan on taking her with me so she can be a part of the history down in DC."

Huggins is at it again, but hopes to bring more people along this time.  Four buses will take off for D.C. the night of Sunday, January 20 and return around 2 A.M. that Tuesday.  Organizers call it a short but significant trip, and want to fill the 90 remaining spots as soon as possible.

"I think its vital to our community to represent there and abroad," Huggins tells 13abc.

Preston Stallings Sr. went with the group in 2009, and plans to go again this month.  He says the friendships he made on the bus made it a memorable experience for his whole family.

"It's nice to look at it on the TV, but it's even better being there only a block away from the swearing in," says Stallings.  "This is a trip you'll always remember and you'll never forget."

This will be President Obama's last presidential swear-in, which makes the trip even more special for local travelers.  But witnessing history with hometown faces is an experience both men say they'll cherish.

"For those who have never been on the trip, you're missing the trip of a lifetime," recommends Stallings.

Tickets cost $125 each.  To get more information about reserving a spot call 419-932-5060 or visit http://www.washingtonbustrip.com/ .
