Man uses son as human shield in police standoff

Posted: Updated:

Police say a man in Omaha used his own son as a human shield during a police standoff!

Authorities went to a home on New Year's Day after receiving a call about a domestic situation. The man's girlfriend and one child escaped the home, but the man used the other child as a human shield as he pointed his shotgun at police.

Authorities say he eventually put his son back inside the home before returning with a second weapon. That's when authorities fired. The man later died at a hospital.

It turns out the shotgun was not loaded, and the second weapon was actually a pellet gun.

The incident is still under investigation.
