High costs could sink downtown wind turbines

Posted: Updated:

Wind turbines atop One Government Center could be removed due to maintenance costs.

The four turbines were installed in 2010 and were expected to save around $17,000 a year in energy costs.

Toledo Deputy Mayor Steve Herwat says the turbines stopped working last year.

County Commissioner Pete Gerken says the county's lease is up in June, and leaders plan to ask about energy costs and savings before moving forward.
