Food for Thought offers more than meals to those in need

Every Saturday Food for Thought teams up with other organizations to offer an outdoor picnic for anyone in need of a free meal.
Even when temperatures drop to the single digits, the organization is there to help. In fact since the program started five years ago, they haven't missed a single Saturday. They set up around 10 a.m. on Saturday morning across from the Main Library in Downtown Toledo.
Organizers say it's less about the food and more about the relationships formed with those who come back every week. They say the conversation and companionship feed the souls of those in need, just as much as the food fills their stomachs.
Lifeline's Mobile Medics are on standby to check on the health of those in attendance.
Kim Warner from Lifeline says, "We saw three pneumonias. The one guy he had just gotten out of the hospital, but we got somebody to take him back down to St. V's emergency room."
Organizers say that during the winter months, donations of socks at sweatpants are appreciated. You can drop off the items at the picnic on any Saturday.
